Frequently Asked Questions
What is The RATT?
The RATT (Rapid All-Terrain Tower) is a field-swappable telescopic mast system that mounts to a vehicle hitch, tripod, wall bracket, or solar trailer. One operator deploys it in under 10 minutes. The same mast moves between any of the four mount types without tools, making it the most versatile rapid-deploy platform on the market. The RATT supports cameras, antennas, lighting, and other sensor payloads. Learn more about The RATT →
What is a remote surveillance trailer?
A remote surveillance trailer (also called a police surveillance trailer in law enforcement applications) is a self-contained, solar-powered mobile surveillance platform that operates autonomously in the field. Deploy it, aim the camera, and walk away. Live and recorded footage is accessible from any browser or mobile app without any on-site hardware. CTS trailers are cloud-native: no NVR, no camera server, no laptop required. They run on LiFePO4 lithium batteries charged by articulating solar panels and can stay deployed for weeks without maintenance. Explore remote surveillance trailers →
Are CTS systems NDAA and TAA compliant?
Yes. All CTS surveillance trailers and camera systems are built with NDAA and TAA compliant cameras and electronics. CTS holds TIPS Contract #230105, making CTS equipment available through cooperative purchasing with no competitive bid required. Applicable grant programs include DHS, COPS Office, FEMA, ARPA, SHSP, UASI, and BSIR.
Will CTS equipment work with our existing VMS or RTCC?
Yes. Every CTS camera is ONVIF-compliant and accessible via public static IP. It plugs directly into Fusus, Motorola CommandCentral, Genetec, Milestone, Avigilon, or any other standards-based VMS or RTCC platform your agency already runs. No proprietary software, no lock-in, no IT dependency. Your cameras, your data, your platform of choice.
Is there a subscription fee or monthly cost?
No. Every CTS trailer ships with 12 months of cloud storage included in the purchase price. ACS Edge VMS is included free. After the first year, your agency can take over the cloud license or CTS continues to manage it. There is no subscription, no per-camera licensing fee, and no service contract required. The purchase price is the total cost. Compare that with subscription surveillance trailer providers that charge $1,500 to $3,000 per month indefinitely.
What is the difference between The RATT and a solar surveillance trailer?
The RATT is designed for short to medium-duration deployments where speed and mobility matter. It mounts to any hitch-equipped vehicle in under 10 minutes and works at events, checkpoints, and tactical operations. A solar surveillance trailer is designed for long-duration autonomous deployments where no operator needs to be present for days or weeks at a time. Many agencies use both: The RATT for rapid response and the trailer for persistent coverage. The FST-44 trailer uses the same field-swappable mast as The RATT, so agencies that own a RATT can move their existing mast directly to the trailer.
How much does a mobile surveillance tower cost?
The RATT mast-only starts at $9,995 — ideal for agencies that supply their own camera, router, and power source. A fully configured turn-key mobile surveillance tower (The RATT RQ621 with camera, connectivity, and mount) starts at $24,995. No subscription, no recurring cost after purchase. For a full breakdown, see our remote surveillance trailer pricing guide.
Can CTS equipment be purchased without a competitive bid?
Yes. CTS holds TIPS Contract #230105, a nationally recognized cooperative purchasing vehicle available to state, local, tribal, and federal agencies across all 50 states. Agencies purchasing through TIPS do not need to run a competitive bid process. This significantly reduces procurement lead time and administrative burden, which is particularly valuable for agencies working against a grant deadline. CTS equipment is also 100% grant eligible under DHS, COPS, FEMA, ARPA, SHSP, and UASI programs.
What cameras does CTS use?
CTS builds systems around NDAA and TAA compliant IP cameras from Axis Communications, Hanwha Vision, and Avigilon. The most common configuration on solar trailers is the Axis Q6325-LE PTZ — 31x optical zoom, 820-foot IR range, AV1 compression, and ARTPEC-9 processing. Every camera is ONVIF-compliant and ships with a 256 GB SD card for edge recording. CTS does not use cameras from Chinese manufacturers. Every camera on every trailer meets Section 889 of the NDAA.
Does CTS offer 5G and Starlink connectivity?
Yes. Every CTS trailer and tower system supports multi-carrier 5G connectivity via Sierra Wireless and Peplink routers. The FXT-44 and FXT-46 trailers are also Starlink-ready, with CTS-built custom mounts for all three Starlink models including Starlink Mini. Gulf Shores PD runs their FXT-44 with both Starlink Mini and T-Mobile 5G bonded via Peplink SpeedFusion for redundant always-on connectivity. Agencies can also configure Peplink SD-WAN bonding to combine multiple cellular carriers for maximum uptime in areas with spotty coverage.
